Waupaca High School Chess Information

Chess at WHS is made up of two different parts. The Chess Club is an intramural activity and is free to all students. There are several intramural tournaments during the year, and club members are encouraged to come to practices, usually Tuesdays and Thursdays from late October until late March. The chess team also practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays and competes in a series of interscholastic tournaments from November through March or April. The top 5 players make up the varsity chess team, while everyone else competes at the junior varsity level. The team competes in the Northeast Wisconsin Chess Association with Appleton, Green Bay Thomas More, Marion, Neenah, Plymouth, Seymour, Two Rivers, Valders and Wisconsin Rapids. There is a $20 activity fee for all high school students playing on the chess team. Middle School students pay $10, and there is no fee for elementary age players.
